| Mark Levine-The Metronome In Rhythm, Vol. 1 This book will open your mind like no other book on rhythm. This book diagrams counting techniques and playing cycles with the metronome using its speeds of tempo and duration within outside rhythmic concepts. This book shows that a natural downbeat(count 1) can be given an upbeat feel by its placement on the AN count which is how 3+3=5, 4+4=7, 5+5=9, etc... It shows counting by hand motions, how to count cycles over 4 counts per measure that were created over 5 counts per measure, how to invert the cycles, different swing or jazz feel interpretations,, outside theory and every pattern contains variations of itself; therefore, thousands of patterns are within the book. The rhythms in the book are notated without musical notation and are defined by numbers and rhythmic counting for the diagramming of unique cycles and the accurate speed relationships of outside placement. The playable patterns are single, double and inverted strokes that are presented in ways to challenge and inspire you to think differently about feel of motion, shape, and speed. This book is for innovative, thinking drummers at all levels and useable by every type of drummer. 284 pages. Spiral bound. 2004.

| | All-Body Band-Slammin (with Keith Terry) This is the best CD yet from Keith Terry and his new group All-Body Band. Using vocalizations, beat boxing, and body music, this band creates an amazing aray of sounds, melodies, and rhythm. The cover of Tower of Power's "What is Hip" has to be heard to be believed. How they copied that 16th note bass pattern and horn section just using their vocies and body is beyond me. Also covered is Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed", and it almost seems like Stevie is sitting in on that tune. This is the kind of CD that is fun to listen to and also interesting because of how unique it is. Crosspulse 005. 2006.
