| Vic Firth-Solo Impressions for Timpani and Piano Vic Firth's three solo impressions(for two, three, and four timpani) are cornerstones of the timpani repertoire. Collected, for the first time in one volume, also included is an enhanced CD of the piano accompaniments. They are given in a straight audio version and a MIDI version, which is useful for practicing since the tempo can be changed without altering the pitch. These pieces are on many state required music lists, and this collection will be a great boon to all timpani players. Carl Fischer Publishers. 2004.

| Brent Heisinger-Sonata For Timpani and Brass (5 timpani, brass choir: 3 trpts, 3 trbs, 4 horns, tuba; 32-page score and 4-page parts, Grade 5)From the West coast composer of March for Timpani and Brass (Carl Fisher) comes another outstanding chamber work featuring the timpani. Sonata is a one movement work in two main sections. The first is slow, beginning with an improvisatory-like timpani part supported by contrasting brass parts. The fast second section is a fugato which is introduced with rhythms perfromed on wood block and trangle (by the brass players!). Alternating re-entries (of the subject) and episodes (without the subject) lead to the timpani cadenza which prepares for the summarizing close. Serves well on both brass and percussion recitals and concerts. Cadenza edited by Guy G. Gauthreaux.
