One of the best drumming CDs of 2004!Talamalika is a set of pieces for four hand drummers and four singers. Each work is pulse driven throughout, and each successive piece is built on a shorter cycle of beats, to create a feeling of spinning inward. The pieces build gradually and are spacious in their timing, so they are very good for dance. Each piece is arranged for different instruments, including tabla, kanjira, mridangam, riq, bodhran, djun djun, hadgini, and dumbek. The drumming was done live, by four players in the same room, without overdubs, and the CD really captures the spirit and energy and precision of fine ensemble performance on acoustic instruments. A booklet describes the instruments in detail. Tigger Benford is a percussionist and composer in Brooklyn, NY. he specializes in hand drumming, improvisation, and music for modern dance. Tigger Benford/Jesse Manno/Peter Jones-Songs From The Second World(CD) This is another fantastic CD featuring Tigger Benford on tabla, drumset, and frame drums. Joining Tigger is Jesse Manno on Greek and Turkish lutes, flutes, and vocals, and Peter Jones on piano, accordian, and harmonium. This is one of the most enjoyable CDs in this catalog. The musicians are all world class, the recording quality is excellent, the compositions are interesting and the use of odd times is fun. 	Aloke Dutta-Sinuosity This is Dutta's third tabla solo CD and it is amazing. The sound quality is so clear that it feels like you are sitting two feet away from him while he is playing. Dutta plays some of most beautiful tabla compositions I have ever heard. All his strokes are clear and precise. Students of tabla will love this CD because it is easy to hear each stroke. Many other recordings are so muddy sounding that you can't tell if the stroke is tun or na. This was a live recording at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles, but it sounds like it was recorded in a studio. One reason you can hear the beauty of the tabla so well is that the only other instrument recorded is a tanpura. There is no lehera outlining the tal. Sam Ulano Tells Drum Fairy Tales New York drumming legend Sam Ulano plays drumset while reciting fairy tales. This CD has to be heard to be believed. There is nothing like it on the planet. My kids loved it, especially The Three Bears. Price: $15.00
